Why can’t i follow more than 7500 people on Instagram?

Ok i was just following some people, until it came up with:
Error
You cannot follow anymore people.
I currently have 3634 followers, so i was wondering if i had to wait until i had more followers or any other reason… i just found it a bit strange because i’ve seen people who follow over 100,000 people!!

Maybe it’s detected as spam for some reason, or is your account reasonably new?
