How come people are so obsessed with being popular?

At lunch, nerds just talk about alot of stuff, with out any problem and it ooks like they are having fun.
But popular people just stand there and talk, or sit there and do nothing. Or they just walk around, take pictures of themselves and post it on facebook.
Plus, popular people have so many friends that don’t mean anything. While the nerdy kids have friends that really mean some thing. The nerdy guys share some sort of spiritual bond with their friends.
Why are these popular people like this? why do people try to become popular?
not all popular people dont have best friends. some can have like 1 best friend then a lot of other close friends. dont label people. its not a good trait.

really, it’s because people don’t like having the looming thought that someone won’t like them or that someone will make fun of them. when you’re popular, people thnk watevur u do is cool and no one ever says anything mean 2 u. but yeah, i think its better to hav one best friend than a billion people that just sit by u and dont care about u much

look, popular to me means that someone has a lot of friends. it doesnt necessarily mean they are preppy or whatever. so i wouldnt judge those kids and say that having a lot of friends mean that they dont mean as much to them.

People aren’t necessarily obsessed with popularity. They can be. But, popular is just having a lot of friends and being outgoing. And how do you know they just sit there or do nothing? Don’t judge because you just see them like that. You don’t even know what they do or talk about. You can have fun by just sitting there or standing and talking. Everyone’s friends means something to them, you just don’t see it because your not them.
